About Küper Wine Bar
A “Cooper” is someone trained to make wooden casks, barrels, etc. from timber staves that were usually heated or steamed to make them pliable. The German spelling of Cooper is Küper. This name celebrates our heritage as well as our love of the food, wine, beer, and people of Germany.
When creating our vision for what we wanted Küper to be, we kept coming back to the idea we wanted wine to be friendly, fun, and approachable for everyone. These have been, and will continue to be, the driving forces behind what Küper is all about.
Wine should be fun. Wine should be shared. Friendships should be made and grown over wine. If you want to talk about terroir or malolactic fermentation, we can geek out with the best of them. Or we can just offer you a yummy and interesting new varietal you can share with your friends.
We wanted to create a friendly, local wine tasting room where you could meet your friends, enjoy the best wine from every region of the world, and, if you wanted, learn about every aspect of wine and the wine-making process.
Our Story
And they find out one of the things they have most in common is their love of wine. After living and traveling all over the world, the one constant has been the seeking out of new wine and wine experiences at every stop. Now, longtime Longmont residents Julie and Doug set out to create a fun, warm, and experiential place where wine can be shared with old friends and new friends can be made over a glass of something new.
After living all over the world, we settled in Longmont and quickly realized this was the community we had been searching for. With some deep soul-searching, the decision was made to follow our passion for wine. The opportunity to learn hands on presented itself and Doug took the role of President and General Manager of a family-owned vineyard and winery in Oregon. In addition, Doug was a board member of the Southern Willamette Wineries Association and a part of the creation of the southern Willamette Valley’s first sub-AVA.
But the call of Colorado and Longmont kept us up at night and the vision of the Küper Wine Bar was born.
